Funeral market under investigation

On 29 November 2018, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published an interim report on funerals in the UK.

The CMA considered that there was reasonable grounds for suspecting that there are various features or combination of features that prevent, restrict or distort competition in the supply of Funeral Director’s services, including ·the customers' vulnerability and difficulty in engaging at the point of need and unresponsiveness to measures of price and quality.

The CMA has also identified concerns about customers’ inability to assess properly when grieving certain aspects of quality and value for money that they would otherwise be well aware of at any other time.

They found Funeral Director’s displayed a lack of transparency with vulnerable clients and above all their ability to influence the decisions of the family at a time when they were not thinking as they would otherwise..

In conclusion it is exactly as Thy Will Be Done have been saying for many years

1. Don’t leave buying your funeral until it’s needed – buy it in advance

2. Your loved ones will not be thinking correctly when your funeral is needed and will be vulnerable to paying costs way over what you would have paid yourself had you been in control

3. Fees rise every year – peg them at today’s prices

4.  Make YOUR choice YOURSELF and pay as LITTLE as possible
