Your partner or spouse does not have the right to in Spain unless you legally appoint them as your Power of Attorney. What is worse, if you have bought a property over here the Power of Attorney you had to give your bank or lawyer dealing with the purchase of your property is still in place unless you have legally revoked it. Your Power of Attorney for Health and Welfare with the Advance Directive will need to be registered at the patient services desk (servicio de atención e información al paciente -  SAIP) of your local hospital within 3 months of it being signed.

 Either the grantor, one of their attorneys or one of the witnesses can do this. 

Two trips will be required, the first to deliver the documents for registration and the second to collect them once registered. Check the opening times of your local hospital's SAIP desk as some are open daily and some only open 2-3 times a week.

For clients who had their appointment at our head office in Quesada and for whom we witnessed their signature, we are able to conduct the above registration process if required, the fee for which is 115€ including IVA.
