  • 16% believed that once the registration has taken place, the Donor will lose access to their assets.

  • 75% of people think that that spouses/partners or close family members can automatically make decisions for them if they’re not able to.

  • Many people interviewed stated they believed that LPAs were only for old people. 

  • The majority believed that jointly held assets would not be affected by mental incapacity.

  • Over 50% thought that the Will of someone would be able to be used if that person lost mental capacity.

  • And even more worrying was the revelation that the vast majority of people interviewed thought that an LPA could be created when it was needed and not, as is the case, in advance of need.
